Have you checked to make sure you put the correct numbers in for your game language?

I read this tutorial after checking the website to see if anyone had offered to make my requested "Slayer" career and, being the independent soul that I am, upon seeing that no one had, I thought "Well, there's a tutorial so maybe I can do it myself." Well, after reading the tutorial, which is very clearly laid out in the most beginner-friendly way possible, I still have to admit that I'm rather intimidated to even start. xD I may eventually be forced to take a crack at it due to my own need to take on random challenges, but in the meantime, I'll just enjoy the custom careers I have already downloaded from this site (particularly the Estate Agent career, which was mentioned in the tutorial) with a greater appreciation for all the work that goes into the making. I'm seriously blown away by the talent in the Sims community.

Hello! Thank you so much for posting this tutorial, I'm really excited to create a botanist career. However, I was hoping to have a branching option at some point but I didn't see directions in the tutorial. Did I miss them somewhere? Thanks.
Edit: also wondering how to write random events that, for example, could lead to a promotion. Or, how to have a sim be on call.

Thank you so much!! Actually I'm including floristry as part of my botanist career, haha. I couldn't figure out how to stretch it with just floristry. I look forward to seeing yours!

Hey, Missy! I commented a few days ago and I just finished the first career mod package. Something I didn't know was that it had to be added to the overrides folder, not the packages folder, so I've fixed that. I used the 'nointro' mod to test it out and that worked, but my career package doesn't, which makes me think I might've skipped a step or got confused on one. Is there any way you could quickly skim over it in an email maybe and tell me why it's not showing up? I followed your tutorial to a tee, so it's probably something super trivial. Thank you Edit: I decided to attach a dropbox instead www.dropbox.com/sh/4qy88a6vy5845pl/AADjwNYpZQ10Zq4PUuz4PJj1a?dl=0I know it has more than two notepad files, but two of them were working drafts and two are the final copies. (Yes, I know the career is minimal, but it's only for my use, I'm not uploading it, so it's very basic )

Hello allijadexo , Welcome to MissyHissy's Job Centre forum! 1) "Something I didn't know was that it had to be added to the overrides folder, not the packages folder" > Weird, I do not believe that this is necessary unless you are trying to override the career data of a file that is already in your regular mods folder? is that the case? 2) "my career package doesn't [work], which makes me think I might've skipped a step or got confused on one[.] I followed your tutorial to a tee, so it's probably something super trivial." > the most up-to-date career modding tutorial was created by MissyHissy and can be found over here, you might want to check against the steps that you have already followed as there may be better explanations in this newer tutorial version: missyhissysjobcentre.proboards.com/thread/189/creating-sims-career-mega-tutorial. 3) From looking briefly at your Performing Arts package files, I can see that: A) your file "PerformingArts.Tones" is missing these critical lines at the very top of the file: <Tone> <ToneName></ToneName> <FullClassName></FullClassName> <ProductVersion>BaseGame</ProductVersion> <CareerGuid></CareerGuid> <SkillCount>0</SkillCount> <Skill1></Skill1> <SkillRate1></SkillRate1> <MotiveCount>0</MotiveCount> <Motive1></Motive1> <MotiveRate1></MotiveRate1> <MustHaveVisibleSkill>False</MustHaveVisibleSkill> </Tone>
These lines are mandatory and must be found in your Tones file so the game can load the custom tones properly. B) Your file "Strings PerformingArts UnhashedKeys" seems also to be quite empty, it only contains 1 line while it should have 29 lines to match what is found in your custom career's English strings file. I highly recommend you compare these 2x specific files against MissyHissy's Performing Arts career file as a guide. Worst case scenario, starting from scratch using the modern tutorial version mentioned above should help! Lastly we have a Discord Server if you want to hang out with fellow career modders and discuss your project: discord.com/invite/TpasRHsHappy modding!

I don't know if this is a dumb question or not, but will this work on a Mac computer? Already had to find an alternative for Notepad, and it is looking like some of the other files might not work either.

I have a feeling s3pe doesn't work on Mac but I'm no expert, I'm afraid. If s3pe doesn't work, then I'm afraid it probably won't. According to the Wiki, support for Linux and Mac is minimal, so you might get lucky!

Hi jobe and welcome to the forum! I'm afraid I don't work with YouTube Videos. Is there anything in particular you're struggling with? I'm always happy to help!
