Let me just start off by saying that I have next to no knowledge of XML coding/modding whatsoever. But my ambitious self wanted to edit the culinary career to make it more realistic by reflecting an actual kitchen brigade... so here I am.
After reading Missy's mega tutorial on making custom careers, I somehow managed to find the careers file in the gameplaydata.package file and went through the process of making the changes I wanted (i.e. changing level names and hours, removing boss at highest level, etc.). I then saved the file, imported back into the gameplaydata file and loaded up the game -- only to see 7 of the level names now missing and the three that remained hadn't changed to what I had coded. I'm assuming there's something I'm missing. Maybe an additional file that needs to be edited? Any help would be appreciated.

Hello mackenzieannb and welcome to the Job Centre Forum! So if I understand correctly you are trying to override EA Culinary career default data, is that correct? If it is the case, I do not have good news because we have not heard recently of successful attempts at overriding the game's default careers including career level names. Since you have gone through the process of reading MissyHissy's career modding Mega tutorial - and kudos to you for this commitment to your vision for a "bridgade"-like culinary career - I'd highly recommend that you create this custom career from scratch. Then we can help you better if/when you submit progress files and ask for guidance/feedback. We are also over at Discord if you want to discuss this in real time and get feedback in the career creation process: discord.com/invite/TpasRHs. Hope this is helpful!

Oh, that's unfortunate. I assumed it would be possible based on this post here on the forum and Missy's response here to the same comment. The first forum is almost four years old so I can see how it could be outdated... I guess i'll just have to stick with current culinary career for now. Thanks for the help!

MissyHissy had answered a similar question here and she linked to a tutorial that has "outdated" in the title, so I assume that it used to be possible to do in the past, but recent patches might have broken this functionality: missyhissysjobcentre.proboards.com/post/1204. If you don't feel like taking up the career modding process, you could also submit the preparation work that you have done for your "Brigade" career (share the career level names and descriptions, etc.) in the forum section "Request a Career" here: missyhissysjobcentre.proboards.com/board/10/request-career. Hopefully an available career modder will add it to their projects! Have a great week-end.

Solved!
After messing around with the files a bit more, I actually managed to get the new career titles to show up in game in place of the default ones! Turns out, I was looking in the wrong place. Thanks so much for all your help and the advice. Now that I've managed to get the brigade system to show up in game, I may try tackling Missy's tutorial on custom careers to make something similar to a "culinary school".
