Hi
First of all thank you for the detailed easy to understand tutorial. I'm about to start making my first career but I have a couple of questions first:
1, Is it possible to make a career that's less than 10 levels? Like 6 for example. Or that is to complicated for an absolute beginner?
2, Is it possible to put 0 as the minimum number of co-workers (or even maximum if I want my sim to be the only [whatever the career is] in town? Is the maximum number only cover those the game adds automatically or those I want to add myself too? (For example I make a career with the maximum of 2 co-workers, I add a sim I'm playing. Can I only add 2 of his/her housemates to the same career or I can add all 7 of them?)
Thanks

Hi there Wynter, welcome to the forum! First off, it is absolutely possible to make a career with less than 10 levels! All you do is remove the career level data for the levels you don't need. I have two examples for you: my Canine Beautician Career which has 5 levels, and my Subway Maintenance Career which has 6 levels. Secondly, you can indeed put 0 into the minimum or maximum (or even both). I believe that applies to the number of sims the game will try to add itself - although you can add as many as you please yourself. I think it just stops the game generating random coworkers Good luck with your career! And don't be afraid to ask if you have any other questions!

Thanks Sorry, real life came and distracted me, but now I'm working on it Another question: if I set the co-worker numbers to 0 (both minimum and maximum) but I do plan on adding multiple sims from my household maybe even with nraas master controller from another household, can I put the meet/hang with co-workers tone in or that will cause problems? How about the co-worker title do I leave that in? I absolutely don't want the game to add random townies to this career, but for example the relationship building with those I sign up for it would be nice. Also, should I write in another topic or here is okay?

By all means keep your questions here, it's the best place for them!
Yes, you can put the Meet Coworkers tone in, and name the coworkers, because while the game won't generate any coworkers for you, you can still put your own in. So yes, adding those in is just fine

In metrics when I write the skills, the skills I write to level one are for getting promoted to level 2 or it would see it as a requirement to get the job? If it is for getting promoted, do I delete the metrics or not write anything there in the final level?
Also in a skill metric:
<Metric2>SkillX</Metric2>
<Mappings2>-2,0,2</Mappings2>
<Args2>Charisma</Args2>
if I want it to be for example Charisma 6 than it has to be <Mappings2>-6,0,6</Mappings2> or <Mappings2>-2,0,6</Mappings2> (does the first number change if the same skill was required for a previous promotion for example 4)
If I use 3 skills and the one mood and I don't want all three raised for the next level just two of them, do I delete the third (and put it back if I need it on the next level) or just leave it on the same number as it was in the previous level?
can I just replace all three skills on a next level or it always has to be the same three I started with?

The skills you write on level 1 are for promotion to level 2. I always keep skills in for the final level because each time their performance bar reaches the top when they're at the top of the career, they get a pay rise. The numbers on the skill metric can actually be whatever you want. When you have <Mappings2>-2,0,2</Mappings2>: The -2 represents the level for Horrible. The 0 represents the level for Normal. The 2 represents the level for Excellent. So if you didn't ever want your sims to have a Horrible skill performance then you can keep it set at a minus value. Yes, say you want to have Charisma, Handiness and Logic, plus mood for promotion to level 3, but you only want Charisma and Logic, plus mood for promotion to Level 4, just don't include the metric for the Handiness skill. And yes, add it back for the next level. The metrics are entirely customisable. You can use what you want wherever you want. And you can use whatever combination of skills for the metrics. If it helps, I've got a variety of careers I've created at my Job Centre. Open some of them up in s3pe and see what I've done with the skills. I've also created a Custom Careers Master List so you can see what others have done with their metrics. I hope that helps!

Okay, so... I followed the instructions probably well. I finished and the career does not show up in game (I took out every custom content except nraas mods including the career mod and my new career.)
What I didn't ask and has the possibility of a problem:
<KEY>BLANK:</KEY> <STR>Gameplay/Excel/Careers/CareerList:BLANK</STR> "Should be your career title. Example; CareerList:EstateAgent"
....
This should look like this:
<KEY> 0x2C9E4E21AB471A43</KEY> <STR> Gameplay/Excel/Careers/CareerList:EstateAgent</STR>
In my file I took out the : after the blank like it looks like in your example and I didn't put in the space after <key> and <str> (mainly because I didn't notice them, but also because everything seemed to be spaceless so far)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In here:
<KEY>BLANK:</KEY> <STR>BLANK</STR> "Should be your 1st skill boosting tone title with Description added. Example; EstateAgentTone.EstateAgentCareerPhotographHouse Description"
I did put a space in front of my description but not in the description itself that's the usual one word with capitals where a space should be.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I didn't put space just the capitals in the job level names
I have 7 skill building tones... (is there a limit to that? Because that wasn't mentioned (than again, usually people are not as crazy with their careers and requirement like I was here)
Any of these can cause this or I screwed up something a lot harder to find?

Okay! Keep the : in, that does seem to be needed. And the spaces are not needed; I think that only happened when I copied + pasted No spaces needed at all apart from in the English strings. There shouldn't be any limit to the skill building tones but obviously I've never experimented with that. If you want to upload your career here in an attachment, I can take a look for you

I tried removing the left in spaces and put in the :s (I changed the keys where I changed ths str.) It still doesn't work. I uploaded the package, let me know if you need any of the txts. The text is sort of lame so please don't judge? Attachments:Librarian.package (21.72 KB)

I think I see where the problem might be. When you came to this bit: You do actually need the word Description; not the actual description. So where you have: It actually needs to read: See? It literally says description. Then in the English strings, you'd put the actual description, just as you have. This could be what's stopping it from working

Well, that's embarrassing... also, I changed them and it still doesn't show up

Does the game generate any script errors when you load the career? If so, could you upload one of them here?

I have these. I started with an empty folder only the nraas mods, and one save in moonlight falls. And only tried once. All three have the package name in them, other than that it might as well be in Chinese for me.

Right! Found the problems. They are so tiny. 1. In the Librarian.Careers file, for Level 3 you've got this line: <DaysToWork>M,T,W,R,F</DaysToWork> >Take the second > away at the end. It's silly, I know but the game really does react to tiny things like this and that will stop the career showing up. 2. Near the end of the Librarian.Tones file, you've got this: </Tone> </Tone> Take away the second one, and you should be good to go!

I changed those, and it did show up in game with the numbers.(though if I get a sim to join, the job offer is empty apart from the work time, and if I get her to accept it the job panel on her is also mostly empty.) I tried putting in the numbers to the unhashed keys and changing the strings but if I start it I still only get the numbers. No script errors this time. Also I tried loading a new Sunset Valley ad putting the whole lot with the vault of antiquity in there and trying it, but there it didn't show up. I attached the package just in case Attachments:Librarian.package (21.75 KB)
