I’ve started playing around with the new Job Overhaul mod by Gamefreak130. I’m sharing some screenshots of my gameplay to give you an idea of how this works. I’ll do this in a few parts but I love what this mod has added. Part 1: The SettingsFirstly, the whole mod is customisable on a per-savegame basis but there’s an option to export your settings (like Story Progression) and import settings, so you can use them over and over. The menu is really straightforward to use. They’re all fairly self explanatory but Gamefreak130 goes into detail about each one on the download page. When you go to ‘Career Availability’, all the careers in your game show up - including the custom ones. By clicking on any career (I’ve used my Accountant career to show how this works with the custom careers), you get these two menu options. The first is to decide whether this career is available for applications and the second is to decide whether this career requires a degree to join and if so, which one (how cool is that?) If you click on the Interviews menu option, you get the same list of available careers. By selecting one, you get these options come up. You can choose which traits will be likely to negatively impact your chances of getting the job, which ones will positively impact your chances and which skills are required to increase your chances. You also decide here whether this job requires an interview or not. That’s all for the settings. Part 2 on its way!

Part 2: ApplicationsSo I selected the Roomies household from Sunset Valley to test this mod out, since they’re 5 young adults/adults in a household. I made them quit their existing jobs to test this out. Stiles, Tamara and Blair all applied for jobs before I remembered to take pictures. However, I did get some pictures of Calvin (formerly Cyclon3 Sw0rd) browsing online classified ads to find some jobs. As always, there were about 5 jobs available on the computer. The job offer looks a little different too: As ideal as Video Game Designer is for Calvin, he doesn’t have enough Nerd influence for this job. Moving on! This’ll do for now. Calvin’s accepting this one and heading over to the Business and Journalism building to fill out an application form. Fortunately, Stiles, Blair and Tamara’s interviews are on Monday so the next post will be about the interviews with those three. Emma had a leaf through the paper to see what jobs were available there. Now this was interesting because there were three different jobs available in the paper. I think this is lovely (was this even the case before? I never used to use this so I have no idea) because it means the sims have 8 different jobs to ick from on any given day. Nice. I don’t quite think Emma’s suited to modelling right now. Moving on! It is lovely to see part time jobs coming up on here. I guess I’d better get cracking with my planned pack of part time jobs then, eh? The other offer was basketball but I can’t really see Emma as a sports personality. She’ll have to try again tomorrow. Next post will be the interviewing process!

Part 3: InterviewsThis part got really fun. I fast-forwarded through to Monday morning because I was dying to see what the interviews were like. Firstly, you get a notification one hour before your interview and from then onward, you get an option to go to the interview at the rabbithole. Note: It looks like the sims switch to formal wear before the interview. I like this idea, it means they’ll look a bit more professional. In future, I’ll have to add a second, job interview, formal outfit for each sim, LOL! Blair was attending an interview for a position as a Vet in this outfit! *facepalm* Once your sim gets to the interview, you get a couple of notifications where your sim is answering questions. These were the notifications I got for Blair, Tamara and Stiles. Tamara’s answers had me cracking up. Especially as she applied for the Accountant job. I couldn’t believe how perfect her second answer was (a lie though it might be!). After 1 hour, the interview is done. Stiles and Blair got their jobs! I like the moodlet they get when they get a successful interview: Tamara, however, didn’t get the job. I can’t say that I’m surprised… I guess she’s back on the job market then! Overall, I love what this mod has added to the job search for Sims. It feels a little more realistic and I love it!

This is so amazing!! It will make the game more realistic than it already is. I am so ready to try this.

Wow! That really does look amazing! When I finish building out my makeover of Starlight Shores (now called Starlite Hills after many, many visits to CAW and back), I will want to add this to my games. Thanks for letting us know how it works in game.
